Labor Day 2014: What's closed around Elkhart County

Planning for a long holiday weekend? Find out which offices and services will be shut down on Labor Day.

Government services: Since Labor Day is a federal holiday, all non-essential government offices will be closed – including city, state and federal offices, courts and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Police and fire departments will be in operation.

Mail: Mail will not be delivered by the United States Postal ServiceFedEx or UPS.  

Banks and credit unions: Most banks and credit unions will be closed.

Libraries: Libraries across Elkhart County will be closed.

Transit: Transpo services and the Interurban Trolley will not provide services on Labor Day. Routes and services will resume Tuesday, Sept. 2. The South Shore train between South Bend in Chicago will operate on its holiday schedule.

Trash pick-up: There will be no garbage collection in Goshen on Labor Day. The routes for the entire week will be each be delayed by one day, according to a press release from the city. The regular schedule will be resume Monday, September 8.

Customers of Waste-Away Group who have their trash picked up Monday through Saturday will have a one-day delay in service next week.

Customers of Michiana Recycling and Disposal whose pick-up falls on Labor Day will have their service delayed by one day for the week.
