City officials and local groups are ramping up efforts to boost traffic and public perception in downtown Elkhart.
SoMa, an Elkhart community planning initiative, announced Wednesday, May 28, it would put $250,000 toward a marketing campaign that brands downtown Main Street as “The Gateway Mile.”
Aspects of the campaign will include a new website, multimedia advertising, a loyalty card for downtown businesses and the slogan “Do Downtown Elkhart.”
On Friday, May 31, SoMa announced that Downtown Elkhart Inc. had assembled a $1.6 million loan program that could potentially be used by property owners in the downtown business district for improvements.
