SHIPSHEWANA – The sixth annual Shipshewana Ice Festival will kick off tomorrow and feature professional carvers making icy art all over town.
From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, people will be able to watch the ice carvers at work in a variety of locations around Shipshewana. The festival has prompted many area stores to stay open until 8 p.m. that day, the festival webpage said.
An ice carving competition will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 28 in the Davis Mercantile parking lot. Carvers will compete for cash prizes and those who aren't competing are welcome to watch, film and take pictures of the event.
The festival will close with its fifth annual chili cook-off from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 28 in the Davis Mercantile parking lot. For information on how to register for the cook-off, click here. Admission is free with a 2013 Shipshewana Ice Festival pin, which can be purchased in stores around the town.
