One man was seriously injured in a one-car crash on John Weaver Parkway near Aeroplex Drive Thursday night, according to Elkhart Police.

The man was the only person in the car. Information is not yet available on how the crash happened.

A passerby called 911 at 6:24 p.m. after seeing the white sedan in a field, then finding debris from the car further north along the roadway. The passerby returned to the vehicle and found the man laying about 10 feet from it, according to Sgt. Scott Hupp of the Elkhart Police Department.

Northbound traffic has been limited to one lane but southbound traffic is open.

Both MedFlight and Samaritan helicopter services were called to airlift the victim to a hospital but bad weather prevented both from taking flight.

The man was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend by ambulance.
