Creekside Church of the Brethren of Elkhart’s Lenten theme is “Deeply Rooted” — referring to the deep love Christ has for humanity. In honoring the theme, the congregation is planning a season of spiritual friendship, which differs from traditional friends as spiritual relationships draw the friends into a deeper relationship with God. Spiritual friends support each other with simple presence, build insight and character in the other, and ground each other’s spiritual life into something greater than an individual experience. In these strengths, both gain spiritual vitality. The two become deeply rooted in love. In this time of spiritual friendship, each participating member is connected to another member who is not connected with them in small groups, team ministry or fellowship. The ministry team will give the newly created spiritual friends a weekly question to begin the conversation, inviting Christ to be present as a compassionate listening friend. The conversation will speak about God in their midst — how are we seeing God in all aspects of our days? How is God working in this season of your life? The questions will not be deep theological concepts, but questions that relate to our daily lives. The church is located on C.R. 113, Dunlap. Information: Pastor Janet at 875-7800.
The fourth Lenten Ecumenical Group Centering Prayer will be held at College Mennonite Church, 1900 S. Main St., Goshen, at 7 p.m. Monday. Come sit in the silence embraced by God. Bring a friend and tell others. Parking is available on the south side of the church. Signs on the door will direct you to the Koinonia room, where group prayer begins promptly at 7. This is a guided prayer session that lasts approximately one half hour. Stay for hot tea and fellowship afterward.
St. John of the Cross in Bristol: Last fall Steve Streeter and Cyd Sunday led a Bible study based on Lois Tverberg’s book “Walking in the dust of Rabbi Jesus.” During the season of Lent church members will continue the study with Part Two of that book. Anyone is welcome to attend, and books are still available. Wednesday nights from 6 pm to 8 p.m. during Lent there will be a soup supper, a time of study and will finish with Compline. Information: call 848-7114.
