I am enjoying the columns written by Thomas Sowell. He makes such perfect sense. His Aug. 5 column (“Is thinking obsolete?) is one to make people think if they will just open their minds past the opinionated media people.
The whole column was good but I especially like how he addressed the Israel/Hamas situation. Israel did not start it all! Israelis are defending their small country, which they have often had to do. They gave warning to the Palestinians when they were attacking a Hamas stronghold.
How many times in other wars have the civilians been warned by the incoming armies?
Hamas planted rockets and armaments in civilian territory, using innocent people for a shield, just as the North Vietnamese Army did. Israel has tried a number of cease-fires, only to be fired on over and over. There were more civilian casualties, but Hamas seems to deem this acceptable in a fight against superior forces.
If we are threatened, the USA does the same. Does anyone remember Japan, which suffered much more than we did?
If you don’t like Israel, fine. But don’t accuse it of wrongdoing when it are only doing what the USA would do in its position. The faction with the hate and will to destroy another nation is Hamas.
