Elkhart veteran grateful to the president for securing Bergdahl's release

As a Vietnam veteran, I thank President Obama and my government for negotiating the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. We don't leave our soldiers behind.

As a Christian, I am reminded of the story of the Prodigal Son, and I rejoice in Bergdahl's homecoming. Christians believe in love and forgiveness.

As a citizen, I am saddened that there are those who would use this young man's unfortunate story just to score political points,. Remember, Bergdahl volunteered to serve.

As a human being , I am outraged that we hate so easily and allow ourselves to be used and manipulated by moneyed political opportunists. I had thought that witch hunts were just in the history books.
