Elkhart is our home, where we have raised and educated our children these past 25 years. When someone drives into Elkhart, we are reminded why it is a wonderful place to live. There by the side of the road is our motto, "Elkhart, the City with a Heart."
A heart is a vital organ to our bodies. It sustains us, feeds us and gives us life. The schools are the "heart" of our community. They sustain us by educating our children. They feed us by developing our youth into adults who will be the future workers, leaders, educators and professionals of our community. They give us life by the sense of pride in the accomplishments of the athletic teams, music, drama and arts programs and marching bands.
To have a heart is to be compassionate and have empathy for our fellow citizens. It is making sure that our schools are safe environments for children to learn.
If you believe like us that you live in a city with a heart, please support the school district's efforts to improve the transportation, buildings and security for all Elkhart Community School students.
Our challenge to you is vote yes twice on May 6. Show everyone that our heart means more than an oddly shaped island at the confluence of the St. Joseph and Elkhart rivers.
