The Elkhart Community Schools referendum isn't about loving your children or not loving your children. No one affiliated with YES4Elkhart has ever made such an inflammatory and, quite frankly, insulting statement. What this referendum is about is recognizing the limitations placed on the public school system and its funding sources and then legally pursuing the financial means to address the issues.
Are there concerns with how public education is funded? Absolutely.
Is there a concern that property taxes may not be the best of all sources of public school funding? Indeed.
Can we sustain the high quality of education with the continued loss of funding from property taxes? This is doubtful.
With all of that being said, I challenge you to look at the current situation realistically. We have to do what we can right now and then vow to continue to do what we can do make the situation better for the future.
If you're injured, you don't make plans for medical care in a month without addressing the wound now.
