We need to get unqualified elderly drivers off the road

Posted on March 11, 2014 at 4:07 p.m.

I believe elderly people are the most fascinating and lovable people on the earth, but when it comes to driving, elderly drivers act as if they have no clue how to drive anymore. This could be a hazard to other drivers on the road.

When you have older people who have Alzheimer’s and are still on the road, problems can take place any moment. Have you ever gotten mad while driving behind someone going 10 miles under the speed limit, driving slow as molasses, and when you sped off and looked back, it was an elderly driver hovering over the steering wheel?

Having elderly drivers on the road who can forget or lose concentration can be dangerous for innocent drivers. We can make a gigantic difference in not only our community but throughout the United States if we try to get unqualified elderly drivers off the road. This will save lives in the long run.

For example, earlier this year I witnessed an elderly driver run a red light that was red for a whole 5 seconds. Thank God those other drivers were paying attention or else this could have resulted in a terrible accident.
