When the property tax cap was placed in the Indiana Constitution, I was under the impression it was to relieve property owners of having to pay the bloated taxes we had been paying for years.
Now our county government is attempting to create new taxes and the school corporations are attempting to get referendums passed to generate more money to spend.
I read in The Elkhart Truth recently that the Concord referendum would cost a homeowner who owns a house valued at $100,000 an additional $450 per year. Does anyone really know of a tax being taken back once it has been put into place? For instance, the wheel tax that began several years ago was only to last for one year.
When large corporations start losing production orders, they cut employees' hours, and if orders continue to decline they start cutting employees. So it must be with Elkhart County and the school corporations. It is time to cut services and employees.
