The Hoosier State Press Association’s Better News Contest honored three of our fine journalists recently. Rachel Terlep’s story on Sam Grewe’s connection to the Notre Dame football team earned her a third place in Best Sports News or Feature. The judge said, “Strong entry in a competitive category. Simply and elegantly told.”

Anthony Anderson’s piece on how Concord boys basketball team lost to end its season won third in Best Sports Event Coverage. The judge said, “A very descriptive piece, this game story puts the reader into what must have been an incredibly exciting finish to an important game.”

In addition, the judge said the category was difficult to judge and nearly every story was top-notch. “The winners were able to set themselves apart from their competitors by quickly grabbing the attenion of the reader and leading them through a concise and exciting journey with the subjects of the piece.”Ryan Dorgan, former intern and digital photographer, won first place in Best Spot News Photo for his shot following an accident. “Strong emotions and good compositions made this one stand out,” wrote the judge.

Congratulations to all of them.
