Flags from the Heart
Powerful display was inspiring reflection on Memorial Day

On behalf of the “Flags from the Heart” committee and many volunteers, I would like to thank all those who visited the flag display in Central Park over the Memorial Day weekend and for all their supportive comments. The display of 208 flags — with 200 attached with personal dedications — was inspiring and gave those who visited a chance to reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day. Those of us involved look forward to next year with confidence that the display can grow even larger and take the experience of the past five years to make next year “bigger and better.”
The committee appreciates the aid of many volunteers who helped install the flags on Friday and Monday’s help in taking the display down. Also, the generous cooperation of Flags International and the dedicated efforts of Scout Troop 87 to secure the site over the weekend can’t be overstated.
Several visitors from out of town said they wished their towns would offer a display such as ours and lauded our Central Park setting for the event.
Once again, thanks to all!
