Sheriff’s department searching for sex offender

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help to track down an absconding sex offender.

ELKHART — The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help to find a sex offender who failed to register his location.

Michael George Fitch Jr., 39, of Elkhart has not registered his location since August 2013 and has three warrants out for his arrest, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s department.

Fitch is 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs about 140 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes.

According to Elkhart County Jail records, Fitch’s last known address was in the 21000 block of State Line Road.

Fitch was booked at the jail on July 15, 2013, on a preliminary charge of failure to register as a sex offender.

He was arrested on preliminary charges of sexual misconduct with a minor on Nov. 17, 1999; May 31, 2000; and Sept. 15, 2000.

Jail records also show he has been arrested on a number of other charges since 1996, including disorderly conduct, violation of probation, criminal tresspass and fleeing.
