NAPPANEE — The Nappanee Police Department is investigating the death of a man who was struck by a train late Wednesday night, Nov. 6.
A train traveling eastbound struck a man on the tracks near Madison Street. CSX Railroad notified Elkhart County Communications at 10:36 p.m.
Officers arrived about 10 minutes later and found Patrick O. Circle of Nappanee about 300 yards east of Madison Street where he had died after being hit by the train.
CSX officials and the Elkhart County Coroner’s office are looking into the incident. No foul play is suspected, according to the police department. The man died of blunt force trauma. Toxicology reports are pending through the coroner’s office, which often take several weeks to process.
