ELKHART — Benham Avenue’s southbound lane was closed to traffic for about an hour Tuesday as a result of a single-vehicle accident near downtown Elkhart.
A man, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital early Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 10, after his motorcycle hit a curb while he approached an underpass near Harrison Street, said Lt. Tom Love of the Elkhart Police Department.
Police and EMS units were called at about 12:45 p.m., said a dispatcher at the Elkhart Communications Center.
The man was taken to Elkhart General Hospital within minutes of the initial call.
Benham Avenue’s southbound lanes were closed from Harrison Street to the underpass while police officers looked at evidence at the scene. Love said an initial inspection of the scene suggested the man was going at a high rate of speed, though police continue investigating the incident.
Police reopened the road to traffic at about 2 p.m.
