Goshen bicyclist struck by SUV, taken to hospital

    Dale Ewers suffered head injuries and a fracture to his left leg.

    GOSHEN — A Goshen man was injured when the bike he was riding was struck by an SUV Thursday evening, Sept. 5, about 2 miles east of Goshen.

    Dale Ewers, 38, was going east on the bike path west of C.R. 127 and north of C.R. 28 at 6:23 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. Ewers started to cross C.R. 127 but went directly into the path of a Toyota Highlander driven by Milton Bontrager, 68, of Louisville, Ky., who was going south on C.R. 127.

    Ewers suffered injuries to his head and a fractured left leg, according to the press release. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

    No citations were issued.
