Man on motorcycle injured after crashing into a horse leading a buggy Friday

The man was injured after he attempted to pass a buggy and struck the horse leading the buggy with his motorcycle.

WAKARUSA — A man riding a motorcycle was injured after crashing into a horse leading a buggy Saturday. The impact ejected him from the motorcycle.

Jeffery Mast, 22, of Nappanee, had broken teeth and complained of pain to his head, neck and face.

Mast was driving his motorcycle east on C.R. 40 east of C.R. 7 at 11:23 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, according to a press release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. Mast attempted to pass a single horse-drawn buggy to the left of the roadway as the buggy was attempting to turn left into a driveway. The buggy was using flashing rear lights but not a left-turn light, according to the press release. Mast crashed into the horse and was ejected from the motorcycle.

The man driving the buggy was not injured. Mast was issued a warning for improper passing.
