WAKARUSA — Two people were hurt in a three-vehicle accident Sunday, Aug. 11, at the intersection of S.R. 19 and C.R. 38 at 6:37 a.m.

Investigators from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department said Braxton M. Metcalf, 24, of Elkhart was westbound on C.R. 38 in a 1999 Saturn SL, approaching the intersection of S.R. 19. Jefferson Miller, 44, of New Paris, was northbound on S.R. 19, pulling a trailer with a 1994 Chevrolet 2500. Janet Stone, 52, of South Bend, was southbound on S.R. 19 in a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta. Police said Metcalf drove through the intersection and crashed into the trailer and Stone’s car.

Stone suffered a fractured spine and right ankle while Megan Wesson, 23, of Goshen, a passenger in Metcalf’s car, complained of facial pain. Both were taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

Police said Metcalf failed field sobriety tests and was jailed at the Elkhart County Correctional Complex.
