School bus and SUV collide on U.S. 6 near Syracuse

A two car crash at U.S. 6 and C.R. 29 sends a man to the hospital for a minor head injury.

SYRACUSE — A crash involving an SUV and a loaded school bus at U.S. 6 and C.R. 29 sent a boy to the hospital with a minor head injury Sunday afternoon, July 21.

According to a news release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Scott Parker, 26, of Wallingford, Conn., was driving an SUV with four passengers southbound on C.R. 29 at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. He failed to yield the right of way at the intersection with U.S. 6 and collided with an eastbound bus driven by Juan Barrera, 46, of Belle Glade, Fla., with 30 passengers aboard.

The only injury reported was to 6-year-old Brian Cochran, who was a passenger in Parker’s SUV. He was taken to Goshen General Hospital for treatment of a bump on his head.

Cpl. Dustin Sahlhoff of the sheriff’s department cited Parker for failure to yield the right of way at a through highway.
