ELKHART — The Elkhart Police Department recovered a GMC Yukon from the St. Joseph River at McNaughton Park Friday morning, July 12.
Divers attached straps to the vehicle through the doors and a wrecker from Moore's Service and Towing lifted the car onto the shore.
The vehicle was coated in a layer of dirt and had weeds stuck to the grill and antenna.
Lt. Mike Sigsbee said the department recovered several stolen vehicles on Thursday, July 11, and received information that the Yukon was in the river.
Sigsbee said the car had been pushed into the river at the park's boat launch and had been submerged for less than a week.
