ELKHART — A woman was taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after her sister pushed her out of the path of an oncoming car.

According to an accident report from the Goshen Police Department, the accident occurred around 12:18 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, at The Depot, 1031 Division St.

Dorothy Uryga, 81, of Middlebury told officers she was driving slowly in the parking lot in front of the building. As she turned to pull into a parking space, the vehicle accelerated suddenly and crashed into the front entrance of the building. She said she did not know if she accidentally hit the accelerator pedal.

Sisters Yolanda Solano and Lupe Cortes were entering the building at the time of the accident.

Solano said she heard the sound of an engine accelerating rapidly. She saw the vehicle coming toward the building, pushed her sister out of the way and ducked inside.

Cortes fell from being pushed and struck her head. She was transported to IU Health Goshen for treatment.

The driver was unharmed in the accident but was trapped in the vehicle until emergency crews arrived.
