ELKHART — A 23-year-old Osceola man died early Tuesday morning, June 11, after his vehicle collided with a semi truck in Illinois.
According to reports from CBS Chicago, Michael Gruse was driving his 2004 Dodge Ram northbound on Interstate 55 near Channahon, Ill., a village southwest of Chicago, at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, when his truck struck a semi in front of him.
The semi had stopped because of heavy traffic in a construction zone.
Gruse was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:15 a.m.
The driver of the semi and a passenger were not injured.
Gruse was a 2008 graduate of Jimtown High School and studied music at Malone University in Canton, Ohio, according to an obituary from Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
He enjoyed playing music at Fiddler’s Hearth and had been involved in the Praise Team at Osceola United Methodist Church, where he was a member.
He had recently relocated to Palos Heights, Ill., to be with his fiancee, Kelly Ladewig, in preparation for their wedding.
A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 14, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, at Osceola United Methodist Church, 431 N. Beech Road.
