ELKHART — A teenager who was shot on the south side of Elkhart last week is now in stable condition and recovering from his wounds, according to Elkhart police on Tuesday, June 11.
Police responded to reports of gunshots in the 200 block of East Indiana Avenue at 11:48 a.m. Thursday. Police blocked a stretch of the street between Prairie and Eden Streets.
Latyris Mitchell, 19, of Elkhart, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with “firearm-related” injuries. Mitchell was initially listed in guarded condition.
Witnesses told police they heard two or three gunshots and saw people leaving the scene before officers arrived.
Capt. Kris Seymore of the Elkhart Police Department said no arrests have been made as of Tuesday, and police continue to investigate the incident.
