Goshen teen arrested

A Goshen teenager was arrested Wednesday after firing a shot into the air and pointing a gun at another juvenile.

GOSHEN — A 16-year-old boy was arrested Thursday evening on several gun-related charges after a confrontation with another teen.

Goshen police officers went to 212 Crescent St. at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in response to reports of sounds of gunfire.

Upon arrival, they found that a 16-year-old boy had been involved in a confrontation with a 15-year-old boy. The 16-year-old fired a firearm once into the air and then pointed it at the other teen.

The two exchanged words and had separated by the time officers arrived.

The teen had stolen the firearm from a relative, police said.

He was arrested on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm, dangerous possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a permit and receiving stolen property.

He was taken to the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Center where he awaits formal charges.
