ELKHART — A man arrested for leading police on a car chase had two warrants from the county for his arrest.

Mendez Holliday, 20, of Elkhart, was arrested Thursday afternoon, May 9, in downtown Elkhart. Police responded at about 3:49 p.m. to the 700 block of Rue Street to reports of a person driving recklessly around the area. An officer found Holliday driving west on Lusher Avenue and attempted to stop him. Holliday led the officer north on Prairie, then north on Benham before turning onto Harrison Street.

Holliday stopped near the intersection of Harrison and Main Streets and attempted to flee on foot before he was caught. Holliday was arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement and driving while suspended.

Holliday also has one warrant from the Elkhart Superior Court 5 on two counts of possession of marijuana. He has another warrant from the same court, where he is charged two counts of possession of marijuana and one count of resisting law enforcement.

The court has scheduled a hearing for Holliday May 13 at 8:30 a.m. Formal charges on his arrest following the car chase had not been filed as of Friday afternoon.
