ELKHART — The Elkhart Fire Department responded to a fire that damaged a mobile home on the northeast side of the city.
The fire department was called at about 1:19 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, to 1901 Osolo Road, Lot 73. The 1900 block of Osolo Road was blocked for traffic because the fire department needed to have a water hose across the road to get to a nearby fire hydrant.
The fire was out by 1:38 p.m., according to dispatchers. Firefighters remained at the scene to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.
Investigators have determined the fire started in the home’s front bedroom, but the cause is still under investigation.
The home is considered to be a total loss with an estimated $15,000 in damage, according to a news release from the Elkhart Fire Department.
The home was insured, but contained some collectible items not covered by the insurance policy.
The tenant was not home at the time of the fire.
