ELKHART — Police continue to look for suspects after a man was shot Saturday night in his Elkhart residence. But as of Sunday afternoon, no new information on the investigation was available.

Lt. Travis Adamson, public information officer for the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department said deputies are working on the case, but no information can be released to the public at the time.

Sheriff’s deputies, along with Elkhart City officers and Osolo firefighters, arrived at 52076 Brookstream Circle in Northlake Apartments around 7:40 p.m. to find a man who had been shot in the face.

Sean Smith was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend in stable condition, according to Cpl. Michael Bennett. The hospital could not provide an update on Smith’s condition as of Sunday afternoon.

Bennett said, from information collected at the scene Saturday night, Smith allowed three men into his apartment, where he was shot.

According to WNDU reports, a witness said Smith took the men upstairs, where they “were hanging out,” before one of them shot Smith in the face.

The three men then fled the scene, but police are not sure whether they had a vehicle or not.

Smith, according to his Facebook profile, is an Elkhart Memorial High School graduate and is enlisted in the U.S. Army as a combat medic.
