ELKHART — Police continue to investigate a shooting at an Elkhart bar that left one person dead and two others injured early Friday morning. No one had been arrested as of Friday afternoon.
Deputies from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department responded to Gemini’s Bar and Grill on U.S. 33 at Mishawaka Road just before 3 a.m. Friday to a complaint of gunfire.
Cordera Williams-El, 25, was fatally shot and two women received non life-threatening injuries. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Department, the cause of Williams-El death was a gunshot to his chest. Williams-El was identified by his tattoos.
The names of the two injured women, who were bystanders at the time of the shooting, have not been released. They were taken to Elkhart General Hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Holloman said witnesses said the bar was relatively quiet before the shooting.
Friday morning, police were at the scene collecting evidence around the area. A red car parked outside showed damage from the shooting, with the windows on the right side of the vehicle broken from shots that went through.
The Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information about the shooting or any suspect involved to contact the department at 533-4151.
Friday morning’s fatal shooting was the second in Elkhart County this week. On Tuesday night, Elkhart Police Department officers responded to the 700 block of Garfield Avenue where they found 25-year-old Durwood Elliott III unresponsive. Elliott was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Elkhart Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
