Body found near Six Span

ELKHART — Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department deputies and the Elkhart County Coroner are investigating the area of the Six Span Bridge on the St. Joseph River where a body was found Thursday afternoon. The body was discovered in a 55-gallon barrel by people clearing debris from the river.

Police were called at 4:02 p.m. near the south bank of the St. Joseph River near C.R. 17 and S.R. 120. The body was found in the river west of the Six Span Bridge, said Capt. Jim Bradberry, public information officer for the sheriff’s department.
