ELKHART — Three people were arrested after their vehicle flipped following a chase early Sunday morning.
Just after 2 a.m. Sunday, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department tried to pull over a maroon Dodge Durango near the intersection of C.R. 9 and C.R. 20 for a traffic violation.
The vehicle did not stop and continued north into Elkhart. After traveling onto Morehouse Avenue, the Durango came to a dead end and flipped when it went over a ledge near the intersection of Main Street and Indiana Avenue.
Both the driver, Christian Serrato, 20, and a passenger, Jesus Alvarado, 20, fled from the scene and were later arrested by officers.
Serrato was first taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was treated and released for a cut to his head he received during the crash. He was then taken to the Elkhart County Correctional facility for resisting arrest, operating while intoxicated, driving while suspended and illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage.
Alvarado was arrested for illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage, public intoxication and resisting arrest.
Another passenger, Adrian Garcia, 20, was found outside the vehicle and arrested for illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage and public intoxication.
A third, unnamed female passenger, 18, had to be extricated from the vehicle. She was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where she was treated and released for head and neck pain. She was not taken into custody.
