Seven displaced after Elkhart house fire Thursday
Seven people have been displaced following a house fire Thursday night.

ELKHART — Seven people have been displaced following a house fire Thursday night.
Fire crews were called to 422 W. Marion St. at 10:32 p.m. They found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the house upon arrival, according to a press release from the Elkhart Fire Department. When fire personnel entered the rear door of the house, they found flames coming from the basement. The fire was under control at 11:05 p.m.
The fire started in the basement of the house. Leland Adams Property of Tennessee owns the house, which is divided into apartments.
The seven people who occupied the apartments were home at the time of the fire but got out prior to the fire department’s arrival. Three adults and two children occupied one apartment. Two adult women occupied the other. The American Red Cross is assisting the families.
A female dog and her puppies also managed to escape. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
