No suspects or motive in Saturday Elkhart shooting

    Elkhart police have no motive and no suspects yet in the Saturday shooting that killed a 19-year-old woman and injured a 35-year-old man, according to a department spokeswoman.

    Police were dispatched at around 11:15 p.m. to the 200 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, near Benham Avenue, after residents there reported hearing gunfire.

    Elkhart Police identified the woman who died as Ariana Pendleton, according to a press release issued early Monday afternoon. She was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where she died.

    Lt. Laura Koch said the injured man, Jarvis Joiner of Elkhart, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital and later transported to Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Staff there said this morning he was not listed as a patient. Police said they don't know his condition.
