Sirens: DUI

Stephanie A. Fine, 34, of 2720 Greenleaf, was arrested on a preliminary DUI charge around 2:50 a.m. Friday near Elkhart Avenue and Jackson Boulevard, said Elkhart Cpl. Ben Kruszynski in a report. According to Elkhart police, an officer stopped Fine for a window obstruction and a turn-signal violation. Kruszynski said she failed field sobriety tests, and her blood-alcohol content was 0.08 percent.

Elkhart:

* Galdino Alfaro Chavez, 45, of 2521 Sanders, was arrested on a preliminary DUI charge around 3:25 a.m. Saturday near Main and Marion streets, said Elkhart Patrolman Christopher Faigh in a report. According to Elkhart police, an officer stopped Chavez for driving left of center. Police said his blood-alcohol content was 0.16 percent.

* Michael Morse, 35, of South Bend, was arrested on a preliminary DUI charge around 1:15 a.m. Saturday near Main Street and Lexington Avenue, said Elkhart Lt. Christopher Snyder in a report. According to Elkhart police, an officer stopped Morse on suspicion of a false and fictitious license plate. Police said he failed field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent.

* Lyndzi Scherer, 27, of 51553 C.R. 109 N., was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on a preliminary DUI charge near Second and Marion streets, said Elkhart Cpl. Ben Kruszynski in a report. According to Elkhart police, an officer stopped Scherer for running a red light. According to police, Scherer failed field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent. The charge is a felony because she had a previous DUI conviction in 2004 and a suspended driver's license.

* Krista Swartzell, 24, of 3011 Vernon, was arrested on a preliminary DUI charge around 3 a.m. Saturday in the 800 block of East Beardsley Avenue, said Elkhart Cpl. Ben Kruszynski in a report. According to Elkhart police, an officer stopped Swartzell for suspicion of an expired license plate. Police said she failed field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol content of 0.17 percent.

* Michael J. Hart, 25, of 1855 Silver St., was arrested around 3:50 a.m. Saturday near Belvedere Road and Winding Waters Lane on a preliminary DUI charge, said Elkhart Patrolman Denise Houser in a report. According to Elkhart police, an officer stopped Hart for speeding and his blood-alcohol level was 0.19 percent.
