A Minnesota-based bus refurbishing company has firmed up details of a planned expansion to Elkhart County that's expected to create 120 jobs.
Now, though, plans call for a plant location in Nappanee, not the periphery of Elkhart as earlier proposed.
"Both Nappanee and the facility are ideal choices based on the availability of skilled workers, suppliers and ample space," said a joint press release late this afternoon from ABC Companies and Greyhound Lines.
As part of the plans, Fairbault, Minn.-based ABC will initially refurbish 250 motorcoaches for Dallas-based Greyhound, a project that's explected to last 12 to 18 months.
The press release said the proposal is the first phase of Greyhound's "refurbishment plan." Tim Stokes, a spokesman for the bus company, said the possibility of extending the plans would be a topic for future discussion.
ABC had been considering a site on Beck Drive, just east of Elkhart, and received preliminary approval in May from the Elkhart County Council for a tax break to develop there. Now, though, the company has turned to Nappanee.
The press release didn't identify the Nappanee site or the reason for selecting that city.
