Go pink all October long

ELKHART — It’s October and that means it’s time to go pink for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A variety of events related to breast cancer awareness will take place all month long and are open to everyone in the community.
Susan G. Komen Northern Indiana events:
• Pink Your Porch - Oct. 1-31
Buy a pink light bulb for your porch for just $5 at Martin’s and to support the fight to end breast cancer forever. Pink Your Porch is an easy and affordable way to show support for breast cancer survivors and raise breast cancer awareness.
• Yoplait Save Lids to Save Lives - Oct. 1-31
Yoplait lids and other General Mills products can be turned in online or mailed. Susan G. Komen Northern Indiana will receive 10 cents for every lid turned in.
• Power of the Pink – Oct. 2
Time and location: 9 to 11 a.m. at Wal-Mart, 316 Indian Ridge Blvd. Mishawaka.
Buy a pink CFL light bulb from participating Wal-Mart stores in September and October to light up the night and show your support for breast cancer awareness and research.
• Pink Your Porch – Oct. 4
Join Deb Miles from B100 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Martin’s Supermarket 1200 N. Nappanee St. Elkhart.
• McCarthy’s on the Riverwalk presents “GiveBack Night” – Oct. 9
Ten perecent of sales will be given back to Komen of Northern Indiana.
• Greater Elkhart County Young Professionals Social Charity Club Night Out
Time and location: 5:30 p.m. at McCarthy’s on the Riverwalk.
• Breast Cancer Awareness/Education – Oct. 18
Time and Location: 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Eddy Street Commons, South Bend.
• Pink Your Porch- Oct. 18
Join Deb Miles from B100 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Martin’s Supermarket in Heritage Square, Granger.
• NorthWood High School PINK Game – Oct. 18
Time and location: 7:30 p.m. at NorthWood High School, 2101 N. Main St., Nappanee.
• Breast Cancer Awareness/Education – Oct. 19
Time and location: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Eddy Street Commons, South Bend.
• Annual Breast Cancer Survivor Luncheon – Oct. 23
Time and location: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gillespie Center, South Bend.
The Promise Celebration is a complimentary luncheon for breast cancer survivors to come together, celebrate survivorship and remember those lost, as well as learn about the latest programs and research available. Beacon Health System will sponsor the event and attendees must RSVP.

• Kelly Cares: Think Pink with Paqui – Oct. 2
Morris Park Country Club in South Bend will host a nine-hole golf outing. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the biopsy fund at United Health Service’s Breast Cancer Program.
• The Retreat Women’s Expo – Oct. 5
Time and location: 12 to 4 p.m. at IU Goshen Hospital Retreat
• Hope for a Cure – Oct. 9
Time and location: 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Elkhart General Hospital
• Notre Dame Volleyball: Block Out Cancer – Oct. 20
Time and location: 1 p.m. at Purcell Pavilion on the campus of Notre Dame
All proceeds to benefit St. Joe Regional Medical Center Secret Sister’s Society
• Breakthrough – Oct. 24
Time and location: 6 p.m. at DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on the campus of Notre Dame.
Join for an evening of health education for the cancer community with collaboration from multiple cancer-related organizations in St. Joe County.
