ISP Master Trooper Judy Kubsch stopped a silver 2004 Ford around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, for disregarding a stop sign at the intersection of Ash Road and C.R. 12, according to a news release from the Indiana State Police Bremen Post.
As she attempted to determine the driverís identity, he jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot into the woods northeast of the intersection.
Officers from the St. Joseph County Police Department, Elkhart Police Department and Indiana State Police saturated the area to search for the driver.
Around 8 p.m., a resident called police and reported that a man they did not know was sitting on the front porch of their home on Edison Road in Osceola.
The man, Nicholas L. Compton, 32, of Elkhart, was identified by Kubsch as the driver of the stopped vehicle and arrested on charges of resisting arrest and providing a false identity.
He was taken to the Elkhart County Jail.
