HOWE — James E. Fanning, 91, of Howe, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen.
He was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Howe to the late Glen Dewey and Grace E. (Kelly) Fanning.
Living his lifetime in LaGrange County, he was a farmer. Mr. Fanning was an avid fisherman and loved spending time at his cabin in Wellston, Mich.
On May 8, 1943, in Howe he married Gwendolyn M. Swihart. She preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 1992.
Surviving are three sons, Donald G. and Warren L. Fanning, both of Howe, and Ronald J. Fanning of Sturgis, Mich.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Prange of Evanston, Ill.; and a brother and two sisters-in-law, Robert (Sandra) Fanning of Howe and Barbara J. Fanning of Shipshewana.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ellsworth Fanning.
Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home, LaGrange. Burial will be at a later date in Pretty Prairie Cemetery in rural Howe.
