The aim of the span is “to reduce the accident frequency and severity at the intersection,” INDOT said in a notice, and a public hearing is set for Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. It’s to be held at the Wawasee High School Auditorium, 1 Warrior Path, Syracuse.
Here are more details from the INDOT notice:
• The project will require 10.9 acres of new right-of-way, though no homes or businesses are to be displaced. Tentative timetables for right-of-way acquisition and construction will be discussed at the Aug. 28 meeting.
• U.S. 6 traffic would be maintained through construction, though there could be short-term closures at times to allow for bridge beam placement.
• C.R. 29 would likely be closed at U.S. 6, and motorists wanting to use the road would have to take detours.
The hearing is meant to offer the public a chance to comment on the project’s preliminary design plans and environmental documents related to the proposal. Those documents are available at the Syracuse Public Library, 115 E. Main St., Syracuse. The library phone number is 574-457-3022.
“All comments collected before, during and two weeks after the hearing will be taken into consideration,” said INDOT’s notice.
