ASTORIA, Ore. — Floyd Curtis McClane was born in Elkhart, Ind., on April 17, 1934, and passed away Aug. 8, 2013, at Providence St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Ore., at age 79.
He was the second son of Clarence and Rose McClane.
He is survived by his wife, Trude; daughter Erin; son Matt; his grandchildren, Deven and Mckenna Murphy; and five siblings, Clancy, Phil, Bob, Jerry and Patty.
Floyd’s sweet spirit, sharp sense of humor and kind nature were well known wherever he went; Astoria was no exception. He will be missed.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. Upon completion of service he became an assistant golf pro at Elcona Country Club in Elkhart, a highlight in his lifelong love of the game.
In 1960 he married Trude in Elkhart and soon after began his work in the RV industry, moving his family to Southern California in 1972. Floyd eventually worked for (and retired from) McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach, Calif. He and his wife, Trude moved to Astoria in 2001.
A funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 1411 Grand Ave., Astoria. Per his wishes, his ashes will be spread in Elkhart in the neighborhood where he grew up.
