Man hospitalized for mental health treatment after car chase in Three Rivers

St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report about a person who had brandished a knife at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday, according to a press release. When officers tried to make contact with the man, he fled in a vehicle, leading police northbound from U.S. 131 and Hoffman Street. The chase reached speeds of well over 100 mph, according to the release, and ended on Michigan Avenue east of U.S. 131.
The suspected driver was taken into custody and taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. His name has not yet been released.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department is pursuing charges of felonious assault, fleeing and eluding, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and obstructing and driving on a suspended license.
