The victims of the incident told police they pulled into the parking lot at the Meijer gas station at 4522 Elkhart Road just after midnight Thursday, July 11, when they heard a siren and saw a vehicle with a flashing blue light approaching.
A man got out of the vehicle and identified himself as an undercover police officer. The victims asked to see his identification and the man fled.
Goshen police were unable to locate him.
The suspect’s vehicle was described as a goldish-green Chevrolet pickup truck with a black grill and push bar on the front and two black racing stripes on the hood, roof and back tailgate. There were also “graffiti-style” stickers on the truck’s rear window.
The flashing lights and siren were behind the grill.
The Goshen Police Department reminds the public that all official police vehicles have red and blue flashing lights and officers are required to be in uniform or in a marked squad car to make a traffic stop.
If something about the situation feels wrong, drivers should call 9-1-1. Emergency dispatchers can also verify an officer’s identity.
