The final round was scheduled for Sunday, June 30, at Christiana Creek, but because of heavy rain that fell for much of the Saturday night, the course was closed, forcing the tournament to postpone the final round until Saturday, July 6.
“At least nine of the holes were flooded and unplayable,” Elkhart Golf Association secretary/treasurer Bob Dorsam said. “We had no choice but to postpone the event until next weekend.”
Defending champion Kyle Miller will enter the Championship Flight final round with a two-stroke lead over Brody Fischer and Dan Hood and a three-shot advantage over Brock Zeeb.
Tee times will remain the same for Saturday as they would have been for Sunday’s postponed final round
The Elkhart Golf Association considered calling the tournament after two rounds before deciding to postpone the event until next weekend — when the weather looks promising.
“We advertise for a three-round tournament and we want to give the golfers the opportunity to play three rounds if we can,” EGA president Bill Searcy said. “We will probably lose a couple guys due to prior commitments, but all we can do is do our best to get the tournament in.”
Searcy said one golfer is scheduled to get married Friday, July 5, and will be on his honeymoon during the final round.
