Performers with Premier Arts, the Lerner Theatre’s resident theater group, will take over downtown Friday, June 21, with a Dixieland jazz band, clowns, floats and actors performing a dance routine from their upcoming show, “South Pacific.” They will be joined in the streets by beloved characters from “The Wizard of Oz” and clarinetist Dave Bennett on one of the Mardi Gras floats.
“We really want to encourage people to join in along the parade route as we deliver them to Civic Plaza,” said David Smith, jazz festival co-chairman.
The parade will start at 5 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Lexington Avenue and continue down Waterfall Drive, turn right on Franklin Street and end at the public stage at Civic Plaza on Main Street where Elkhart mayor Dick Moore will welcome festivalgoers. Bill Allred’s Classic Jazz Band will be the first group to perform at the stage after the parade.
