FARMVILLE, Va. — Charles Franklin Bartlett, 87, of Farmville, died in the early hours of May 8, 2013.
He was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Galax to the late George W. and Katie Mae Thomas Bartlett.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a fighter pilot during World War II and the Korean War.
He played on the golf pro tour in the 1960s and 1970s. In 2010 he was awarded his 50-year gold pin with the PGA. He was the owner of the Divot Driving Range in Elkhart, Ind.
In 1989, Charles married Alice Linkins Senger. They celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary on May 6, 2013.
Mr. Bartlett is survived by his wife, Alice Linkins Senger Bartlett of Farmville; daughter Susan Lynn Montez, of Connecticut; sister Shirley Bartlett Melton; grandson Randall Bartlett Nixon; nieces Linda Richboro and Eleanor Green; nephews Stanley Maiden and Charles Maiden; and Joseph Ward of Arkansas, who was thought of as a son by Charles and Alice.
Charles Franklin Bartlett has taken his last flight.
Funeral services were May 10, 2013, at Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville.
