Quick Bites: Goshens Noodle Head to open soon

The new noodle shop going into 127 S. Main St., Goshen, will fill the spot where Il Forno was. Customers will be able to order Asian fusion noodle dishes with side dishes, non-alcoholic drinks and appetizers, said Elaine Laux, who will help chef Kelly Graff operate the new restaurant.
They hoped to have the restaurant open by the end of May, but there were some construction and other delays, Laux said.
The prices at Noodle Head will be lower than Kelly Jae’s Cafe/Next Door, which Graff owns and operates. The restaurant will target college students and young families, Laux said.

• On Thursday, June 6, I asked ElkhartTruth.com readers to submit six-word restaurant reviews in a contest to give away 10 barbecue tickets for the event at the Greater Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church on Friday and Saturday.
More than 30 people submitted entries via the Dining A La King blog. There were some great ones.
The five winners were:
• Robbie Rodgers, on Das Dutchman Essenhaus: “That’s a salad!? Bring me pie!”
• Emilie Kettering, on Cuisine on 17: “Fraudulent food, barely legal, barely edible.”
• Alex Dugger, on Iechyd Da Brewing Co.: “Coffee house minus coffee plus beer.”
• Jonathan Graber, also on Iechyd Da: “Pub, mug, tummy. Full and happy!”
• Brian Yoder Schlabach, on Memories of China: “Been to China. Remember it differently.”
I gave honorable mention to two other people.
Suzanne Ehst has taught six-word story writing to students as an English teacher. Her submission on Noa Noa Wood Grill & Sushi Bar was “Fresh Midwestern sushi isn’t an oxymoron.”
Keith Hiebner wrote on Golden Monkey: “Fantastic pho with good ‘Murican grub.”

• The auction of the contents of Riverview Tavern, also known as Ma’s, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, at White Pigeon Storage, 131 U.S. 131 S., White Pigeon.
Tiffany Burks of the Michigan Department of Treasury confirmed last Monday, June 3, that the contents were seized due to back taxes being owed, but the real estate is not part of the treasury auction.
• Rick Hutchinson, owner of Amphora Winery in Healdsburg, Calif., and Ken Foster, winemaker for Mahoney Winery in Napa, Calif., will be in the Elkhart area in the coming weeks.
Those on the Dining A La King wine tour to California in February spent time with Hutchinson and at Mahoney with owner Francis Mahoney.
Cappy’s, 1000 N. Michigan St., Elkhart, is doing a tasting from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 17, for Amphora and 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 24, for Mahoney. Hors d’oeuvres will be offered and dinner specials will be available, according to owner Merle Anderson.
Antonio’s, 1105 Goshen Ave., Elkhart, is doing a wine dinner with Amphora at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, but reservations are full, according to owner Paul Cataldo.
The Antonio’s/Mahoney dinner is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 26. The cost is $45, according to Cataldo. The menu includes grilled shrimp, risotto soup, pasta, salad and flatiron steak.
Jay Fields of Indiana Wholesale Wine and Liquor Co. is arranging a few other events for Hutchinson and Foster, but these are the best ones for people to get to in the Elkhart-area.
• The last day of business for Cristano’s Take-N-Bake Pizza Factory, 2809 Ferndale Road, Elkhart, will be Saturday, June 15. Owner Stan Oyer has taken another job and will close the restaurant. The restaurant will be open Friday and Saturday this week, he said.
• McDonald’s restaurants in the northern Indiana area that are open 24 hours have a new late-night menu from midnight to 4 a.m., according to a press release. If you’re up at that hour of the day, you can get breakfast and dinner items. So you can have fries with your Egg White Delight McMuffin. • Chubby Trout put Evil Czech beer on six of its taps last week. Shawn Erickson, vice president of operations at the Culver brewery, said their goal is to produce balanced beer in a world that has a lot of hoppy ones. Much of the beer is being sold at Corndance Cafe in Culver and Corndance Tavern in Mishawaka, but they hope to distribute more. The Voodoo Vanilla Rye Porter was remarkably smooth and yet complex.
