Jacob Wing, 18, is the latest person arrested in connection with a string of robberies at businesses on the north side of Elkhart earlier this year.
Wing was arrested Tuesday in Elkhart on a warrant. According to the probable cause affidavit filed for his case, police developed Wing as a suspect following two robberies on Feb. 25. During an interview with police, Wing admitted to providing a getaway vehicle and planning at least one of the robberies with Jacob Estep and Timothy Cramer. Both Estep and Cramer have since been arrested as well.
Estep, 23, was arrested Feb. 28, and has since been charged with eight counts of robbery and one count of theft. According to court files, Estep entered a Days Inn at 2820 Cassopolis St. and demanded cash from the clerk at about 4:05 a.m., Feb. 28. A tenant who was on the phone with the clerk when the robbery happened overheard Estep and the clerk arguing and told her boyfriend and a friend there was an ongoing robbery. The two men went to the clerk’s office and chased Estep toward the Red Roof Inn, at 2902 Cassopolis St., where police found him.
Cramer, 23, was arrested May 25 on a warrant issued from the Elkhart Circuit Court. He is charged with one count of robbery. Cramer was charged in Superior Court 2 with theft on Nov. 19, 2012, for attempting to shoplift from a Walmart store at 176 W. C.R. 6. on Nov. 13. He has pleaded guilty to the charge and is expected to be sentenced on July 1.
The Elkhart Police Department and the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department responded to numerous robberies between Jan. 25 and Feb. 28. Most robberies happened on the north side of the city, and Estep has been accused of participating in eight of them:
• Elkhart Cigarette Outlet at 51505 S.R. 19 on Jan. 25
• Low Bob’s Discount Tobacco at 51523 S.R. 19 on Jan. 25
• Hampton Inn at 215 North Pointe Blvd. on Jan. 31
• Yoder Truck Stop at 1125 Kent St. on Jan. 31
• Low Bob’s Discount Tobacco 51523 S.R. 19 on Feb. 3
• Phillips 66 Gas Station at 3320 Cassopolis St. on Feb. 4
• Super Quick Stop at 427 W. Lexington Ave. on Feb. 25

• Kathy’s Stop ‘n Go at 1916 E. Bristol St. on Feb. 26
• Days Inn at 2820 Cassopolis St. on Feb. 28
Two suspects were arrested Feb. 1 and were charged with one count of robbery in connection to one of the robberies that happened Jan. 25 on the north side of Elkhart. Abigail Pifer, 19, and Nicholas Chaplin, 24, had been identified by witnesses from photographs that were obtained from surveillance cameras at the businesses. Police arrested the two suspects after a traffic stop.
The Elkhart Circuit Court has also issued a warrant for the arrest of Sergio Rocha, 26, who, according to the probable cause affidavit for his case, aided Pifer and Chaplin in one of the robberies on Jan. 25.
Police continue investigating the robberies to find any new leads or information on the case, said Lt. Mike Sigsbee of the Elkhart Police Department.
