WARSAW — After losing to Northridge twice this year, Concord will get another shot at the No. 2 Raiders in the Class 4A Warsaw Sectional softball championship on Friday, May 24.
The Minutemen first had to get past Warsaw in Wednesday’s semifinal, and did so 11-5, after Northridge eliminated Central 7-0.
A two-run homer by Leslie Crawford put Concord up early. Warsaw rallied in the fifth, and Concord coach Dawn Austin met with her team at the pitcher’s circle after the third straight score.
“I said, ‘Shut the door, make the plays for her and let’s get out of here,’” Austin said.
Concord got two quick outs then got another home run — a three-run shot from Jennifer Miller — to secure the win.
Northridge and Central were locked at zero for the first half of the first semifinal, before Hannah Kistler drove in Brianne O’Dell with a double to right field in the bottom of the fourth inning. Winning pitcher Haley Nixon followed with a single that brought Kistler home.
Nixon recorded eight strikeouts and limited Central to two hits.
