Peoples Forum: In House and Senate, Joe Donnelly has served us well

During the downturn in 2008 and 2009 when the RV industry was at its lowest point and our unemployment rate exceeded 20 percent, Congressman Donnelly worked on many issues important to the greater Elkhart community. Recognizing the need to better serve our veterans, he led the drive that resulted in opening the Goshen VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic. He was in constant contact with us as he worked non-stop for the Elkhart economy when we faced those challenging unemployment numbers. As our representative, he took the lead in organizing Worker Transition Workshops with then-Rep. Mark Souder. He continued the Job Seekers Workshops in 2011 and 2012 and hosted a panel discussion with RV manufacturers, dealers and lenders in 2009 and 2010. He organized a manufactured housing roundtable with HUD and, during all of this, his office kept an open line of communication with the mayor’s office and other local officials, including meeting and teleconferencing several times in his first few months as senator.
Specifically, as we look at Sen. Donnelly’s record, we find he was in Elkhart County more than 250 times during his six years of service as congressman for Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District.
Joe Donnelly was more than our representative, and he is and will be more than our senator as he represents and brings this same dedication to serving the entire state of Indiana. He is a member of our team, a man of great energy, and a man who remembers where he came from and will forever be indebted to those who have placed their trust in him: the people he represents.
