Last week, Allied Specialty Vehicles announced it would close the Navistar RV plant in Wakarusa that employees 520 workers.
On Tuesday, it was learned that a subsidiary of ASV ó which just recently bought SJC Industries, an ambulance manufacturing firm, from Thor Industries ó will close that plant, costing 165 workers their jobs.
News of the closure came through the filing of a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act form through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The plant closure is expected to begin July 8 and be completed by the end of the month.
SJC is located at 25161 Leer Drive in Elkhart.
Thor purchased SJC in 2010 for about $20 million, according to Thorís filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Thor announced earlier this month that it had sold SJC to Wheeled Coach Industries, a division of ASV.
Representatives from Thor, SJC and ASV could not be reached for comment late Tuesday afternoon.
The South Bend Tribune, in a report on its website, said the closing of SJC was confirmed by ASV.
The state paperwork noted that the closing does not affect Goshen Coach Inc., a bus manufacturing operation.
Operations at the Navistar RV plant will be shifted to a factory in Decatur, Ind. A spokesman for ASV said last week the company will try to sell the Wakarusa facilities.
